Slow & Steady

The Lord reminded me—just like when Hunter Johnsman texted me “slow and steady”—just how important this is in the race we are running here on earth to one day spend eternity in Heaven. We also discussed this great race on our prayer call this morning. It’s such a joy when the Lord confirms things.

Slow and steady wins the race. I have been constantly thinking about all the things I want to do in my life: have kids, be a lead pastor, plant a church, have a large enough house that we can entertain all our kids' friends and give them an environment to fellowship, pray, worship, and minister; travel to big cities and evangelize; be a high school football coach (head coach or defensive coordinator); memorize hundreds of Bible verses; go on missions trips; and potentially even be in politics.

Lately, my mind has been racing, trying to figure out how in the world I can do all these things. I feel short on time—but I’m not. Slow and steady will win the race. I may accomplish all those things, I may not, but I will accomplish all the things God intends for me to here on earth before I spend eternity with Him in Heaven. Slow and steady: daily disciplines, daily picking up the cross, daily prayer, daily study, daily evangelism, daily light-bearing, daily spreading of the Good News, daily sacrifice, daily “YES” to whatever He asks of me, daily obedience. It’s these little things that will win the race—slow and steady. Trust Him.
